creation of
an accessible report

The Fred Hollows Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization based in Sydney, Australia. Its mission is to improve the health and lives of people who are blind or visually impaired.

Following an investigation, the foundation commissioned us to create a report on discrimination related to age and visual disability in the world (ableism or validism).

We first created a dedicated visual identity. Our bias is a clean design with simple geometric shapes illustrating the isolation of people who are discriminated against while symbolically highlighting them and connecting them with so-called "able-bodied" people.

The choice of colors was made by favoring a high level of contrast. The visual identity is thus compliant with WCAG accessibility standards.

Then we defined the document layout, paying the greatest attention to the following elements:
-       Choice of fonts
-       Adjustment of line spacing
-       Adapted text size
-       Airy and structured layout
-       Description of images
-       Checking the reading order
-       Tagging content for screen readers

Once the document of around sixty pages was formatted, we checked and optimized all the accessibility parameters.

In the end, the PDF document is accessible and perfectly compatible with screen readers.
